Gov’t Reveals Dates For 5,000 Kenya Police Recruitment
The government has stated that it will resume recruiting approximately 5,000 police officers next year, following a two-year halt.
Speaking at an interdenominational ceremony in Lodwar, Turkana County, on Sunday, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said that the government will begin the recruiting process in March of next year.
According to Kindiki, the recruitment would aim to strengthen security efforts in the country and other high-risk areas.
Kindiki made the remark while highlighting some of the actions the administration has taken to reduce the country’s high unemployment rate.
“We have employed additional officers to the Kenya Defence Forces and even for that of police officers that had delays, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March,” Kindiki announced.
“We are trying to create more job opportunities in the public sector and the informal sectors,” he added.

Kindiki indicated that the government will aim to deploy the officers in several places, including the northeastern region.
The DP also announced that President William Ruto would soon designate a new Cabinet Secretary for Interior.
He stated that he will collaborate closely with the next CS to build on the security progress he made while serving as Interior Minister.
“We are praying for a new Interior CS who will soon be announced and we will work with him/her closely to build on the strides we made earlier,” the DP revealed.

Kenya’s last recruitment exercise for junior officers for the National Police Service (NPS) occurred in March 2022.
A scheduled recruitment for 2023 was postponed, and the DP then serving as Interior CS declared that the next recruitment would take place in early 2024, but this did not happen.
The delay also impacted the recruitment of jail officials, which was originally scheduled for 2023.
The delay in recruiting was mostly due to financial constraints imposed by the government as a result of financing rising public debt, which forced the government to reduce recurring expenditures.
