REPORT: Kenyans Demand Implementation Of 3 KEY Election Reforms
A sizable proportion of Kenyans feel the government should improve anti-corruption measures to restore trust in the country’s electoral institutions.
According to a recent report released on Monday by Infotrak, 50% of individuals interviewed rated this as the most important change to ensure the credibility of organizations such as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Others include the judiciary and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
Improving election openness had a rating of 45% while improving institutional independence came in third at 34%.
Having qualified individuals at such institutions and enhancing service delivery were both stated by 22 percent of the respondents, as was embracing technology.
According to the Infotrak Perception Study, only 26% of Kenyans trust the IEBC to conduct free and fair elections in 2027. A significant 54% express skepticism, citing corruption, lack of transparency, and external interference as key concerns. #InfotrakPerceptionStudy pic.twitter.com/FayMs1fb3M
