Gachagua Says Ruto’s Housing Initiative Is A Misplaced Priority

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized the Kenya Kwanza government’s affordable housing initiative as a case of misguided priorities.

Speaking at a church service at PCEA Emmanuel Matanya, Waguthiru Parish in Laikipia County, Gachagua alleged that his advice to President William Ruto to keep campaign promises was neglected in favor of the housing agenda.

“Nilikuwa naambia rais, si tutimize ile ahadi tulipatania wananchi…tuwajengee barabara, tuwaunganishie stima, tuwawekee maji na tuangalie maneno ya elimu,” Gachagua said in his address to the congregation.

“Rais anasema hapana, wacha tufanye kwanza mambo ya affordable housing.”

The former deputy president criticized the initiative, claiming that Kenya faced more pressing issues, such as poor infrastructure and water shortages.

He questioned the need for the housing initiative, claiming that the funds allocated to it could have been better used to address these vital challenges.

“Hapa kuna mtu hana nyumba yake? Mnataka maji ama manyumba? Mnataka barabara ama manyumba?” He posed to the congregation. “Kila mtu anaweza jenga nyumba yake.”

In addition to criticizing the housing initiative, Gachagua accused President Ruto of recreating the outlawed Mungiki cult, alleging that it was being utilized to destabilize Central Kenya.

“Rais amefufua kundi haramu ndiyo atuhangaishe,” Gachagua alleged. “Ukileta hiyo group, watu wetu watakuchukia kuliko venye wanakuchukia saa hii.”

Gachagua, who has become a vocal opponent of the government since being removed from office, hinted at a major political pronouncement in the coming weeks.

“I am listening to the people, and I will make a pronouncement in a fortnight,” he declared.
