Kenyan Police In Haiti Successfully Capture Disturbed Region Barbecue-Led Gangs
Only days after 217 elite officers from the National Police Service arrived in Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), the special elite squad reached a significant milestone in their mission.
Following successful efforts to rid Haiti of gangs, the Kenya Police Service handed over the country’s third forward operating base (FOB) to its Guatemalan colleagues on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, President William Ruto released a video from Haiti in which Kenyan police officers explained how they had done the accomplishment.

Kenyan troops, commanded by Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police Godfrey Otunge, claimed that it took concerted efforts and coordination to wrestle off the agitated gangs led by Jimmy Cherizier (Barbecue).
“The IGPNH was a no-go zone. When we captured that IGPNH, the citizens through social media were saying, how can it happen? What kind of force is that that can dare to go to IGPNH?” Otunge stated.
“And as we are talking right now, the renovation, refurbishment and everything is being done for the IGPNH and I have my troops of MSS,” he added.
Kenyan forces will officially hand over the project once the repairs are completed, as part of efforts to curb gang violence and protect Haitian civilians.
The Haitian forces, for their part, thanked the Kenyan forces for their efforts in neutralising the gangs, which have been a thorn in the flesh of the Caribbean nation’s people for more than 5 years.
“We are currently occupying the IGPNH. In terms of the working relationship with Kenyan forces on the ground, I can say that I have been able to collaborate and get some good work done with the help of some of my colleagues,” Claudio Quiroz, a police officer from the Haitian troops narrated.
The breakthrough came just a few days after Kenya’s government declared on Monday that it will create history by deploying an all-female security squad to the Caribbean nation as part of future deployments.
