‘Disband Or Face Full Force Of The Law!’ – CS Murkomen Warns Criminal Gangs

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has warned criminal organizations that the government will spare no effort to dismantle them.

His warning comes just one day after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) warned about the resurgence of prohibited criminal gangs in the country.

Speaking on Friday, Murkomen stated that the government has taken note of the regrouping of criminal organizations, some of which he claims are primarily backed by politicians.

“I’m sounding a warning to all criminal gangs out there to either disband or face the full force of the law,” Murkomen said.

According to the CS, the gangs threaten the country’s peace and lead youth to criminal behavior.

He warned that leaders who use teenagers to join gangs for political purposes will face prosecution regardless of political party or influence.

Murkomen stated that he has directed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to work diligently to locate and dismantle the criminal gangs immediately.

The CS spoke at the unveiling of the Administration Police Service Road Map for Service Delivery Revitalisation and the National Government Administration Police Unit (NGAPU).

The NGAPU will work closely with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) to oversee security in all administrative divisions.

They will encourage a collaborative and coordinated response to emerging security problems.

“Public servants, including NGAO, who will be found abetting these crimes will be sacked and charged,” Murkomen warned.

“On the other hand, politicians financing or benefitting from the activities of these gangs are equally culpable irrespective of the office they hold or social status. We will prosecute them.”

He requested that the police conduct extensive investigations into the formation of all outlawed gangs and their operations in order to secure their conviction as well as that of their sponsors.

Murkomen stated that the government will not enable politicians who are unable to persuade voters to vote for them by turning a blind eye and allowing them to terrorize their opponents with criminal gangs.

On Thursday, the NCIC issued a warning that organised criminal gangs had recently reassembled and were engaging in gang-related operations.

The vices include extortion, armed robbery, and violent attacks on citizens and businesses.

The NCIC stated that the organizations are becoming more active in many counties across the country, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Kiambu.

“The resurgence of these gangs poses a serious threat to public safety, hindering efforts to achieve peace, security, and socio-economic progress in affected regions,” NCIC chairperson Samwel Kobia said.
