‘No Jobs In Thailand, India, or Malaysia!’ – Gov’t Warns Kenyans Over Job Scams
Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, has urged Kenyans against seeking jobs in Thailand, India, or Malaysia due to a statewide spike in dubious recruiting schemes.
According to the PS, these overseas countries experience unemployment issues due to their big populations, which hampers economic progress.
She further stated that scammers frequently misrepresent job offers from these countries, which turn out to be a cover for human trafficking.
“There are no jobs in Thailand, India or Malaysia. These countries also have unemployment challenges,” she said.
“If someone is recruiting you for a job in any of these places, you’re likely to be a victim of trafficking. Run! And report them to us.”
The PS warned that such victims face tragedies, including cruel torture and sexual exploitation.

She recommended Kenyans looking for jobs abroad to get a work visa or work permit before departing the country.
She also stated that job seekers should confirm offers with the diaspora office to ensure trustworthiness.
“Do NOT leave Kenya for work on a visitor or tourist visa! Ensure you have a work visa or work permit. Kaa chonjo! Security starts with you,” she noted.
PS Njogu further stated that any Kenyan who is in difficulties while working overseas should contact their own embassy or consulate for assistance.
“Even if someone steals or keeps your passport, we can facilitate you to go home!” assured Njogu.

Her comments come as the public is concerned about the rise in fraudulent employment organizations that make alluring offers in order to defraud Kenyans out of millions.
To address the issue, Labour CS Alfred Mutua promised Kenyans that the government was striving to eliminate such illegal entities.
“We are also committed to addressing the issue of rogue agencies, with several currently under investigation by the DCI,” CS Mutua said in September last year.
