[LIST] Ranking 10 Most Listened Radio Stations in Kenya
Ipsos, a global research company, has released a list of Kenya’s most popular radio stations, with Radio Citizen, owned by Royal Media Services (RMS), leading the way.
According to a report released by the research firm on Tuesday, Radio Citizen topped the list, with a 10.4% audience reach and a 20% audience share.
An audience reach is the number of unique listeners to a radio station, whereas an audience share is the overall average proportion of people who listen to a radio station over a certain time period.
Notably, Radio Citizen has been the most popular station for the third year in a row, dating back to 2021, when it began its upward ascent.

Radio Jambo and Radio Maisha, which mostly broadcast in Kiswahili, finished second and third, respectively, with an audience reach of 2.7% and audience shares of 7.5% and 2.7%.
Kameme Radio, owned by Mediamax, Radio 47, and RMS-owned Ramogi FM ranked fourth, fifth, and sixth in terms of audience reach, respectively.
Despite its introduction in 2023, Radio 47 achieved a 2.5% audience reach and a 5.8% audience share.
Barely two years after it began operations, Radio 47 has been classified as one of the fastest-growing stations in the country.
Cape Media owns the station, which recently announced plans to open an ultramodern studio to commemorate its second anniversary.
Milele FM, Inooro FM, Musyi FM, and Kass FM ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, among the country’s most popular radio stations.
Classic FM came in ninth place, broadcasting predominantly in English to a Nairobi-based audience.

Classic FM had an audience reach of 1.1% and a share of 2.0%.
According to the report, Kenyans aged 25 to 34 were the most frequent users of radio content, accounting for 33%, followed by those aged 18 to 24 at 26.8%.
Regionally, the report identified Central Kenya as the leading consumer of radio material, followed by the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, Nairobi, and the Coast.
According to Ipsos, ladies are the most likely to listen to radio stations, accounting for 50.1% of total listeners, followed by males at 49.9%.
