Governor Irung’u Kang’ata spoke at the mobile unit’s opening on Saturday, emphasizing the unit’s importance in alleviating congestion at current dialysis centers while also addressing increased demand for renal treatment.
He mentioned that the county used to have only a few functional dialysis machines, which were insufficient to serve the growing number of people with kidney-related issues.
“We had four functional dialysis machines in the county which were not enough to serve all patients in need, with some even missing out on treatment,” Kang’ata said.

“The mobile unit will assist in decongesting existing facilities and provide timely medical care.”
Murang’a has dialysis centers in the County Level 5 Hospital and the Kigumo Level 4 facility, with numerous patients on the waiting list for dialysis.
Kang’ata stated that the unit’s inauguration is part of a larger push to strengthen the county’s healthcare services.
He promised the public that the mobile dialysis service will operate on a set timetable, assuring equal access across the region.
The governor stated that the mobile dialysis unit is equipped with modern dialysis devices.
Furthermore, the transportable unit enables clients to receive treatment at nearby health facilities, saving them from costly and laborious excursions.
“The dialysis truck will be operating in different constituencies within Murang’a where every patient will have access to the services,” Kang’ata remarked.
With the county’s few dialysis centers, many people were forced to seek treatment outside of the county, resulting in additional financial constraints.
The mobile unit is intended to cut waiting times and expenses for patients, particularly the elderly and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who frequently face barriers to getting specialised treatment.
Project partners stated that the mobile unit will be a game changer in the region, noting that a lack of dialysis equipment is a big issue for kidney patients in the country.
They emphasized that the mobile unit would not only serve patients directly but would also relieve the county’s overburdened dialysis centers.

Residents praised the development, expressing hope that the mobile unit will drastically cut travel costs and other barriers to getting dialysis services.
Many residents see it as a significant step forward in improving healthcare services and the quality of life for Murang’a’s kidney patients.
Gatanga MCA John Kibaiya, who attended the event, praised the county administration for spending extensively in the health sector.
Kibaiya believes the mobile dialysis machine will go a long way toward providing cheap services to renal patients who have previously struggled to access the service in health facilities outside the county.
