KNEC Warns KPSEA Parents Over Registration Verification Before Portal Closure

All parents with pupils enrolled in the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) have been encouraged to contact their schools to ensure they are registered for the national exams before the portal closes.

The Kenya National and Examination Council (KNEC) has advised parents that after the portal closes, it would not be reopened to help children who missed the registration deadline.

The registration window, which has been open since January 27, will conclude on Friday, February 28, and all parents have been asked to verify that all sixth-grade pupils are registered.

“Please note that today is the last day of registration of candidates for 2025 KPSEA. Please check with the school to ensure your child has been successfully registered and their details captured accurately,” the notice read in part.

“There will be no provision for late registration of candidates once the portal is closed,” the notice continued.

Parents have been asked to take the required procedures to ensure that pupils who are eligible for KPSEA do not miss out due to delayed registration.

At the end of their elementary school, every Grade 6 student must take the KPSEA.

It replaced the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) as part of the new Competence-Based Curriculum.

This year’s KPSEA registration was rather different since KNEC established procedures and recommendations to assist parents, students, and institution heads in enrolling for the tests.

According to the rules, heads of institutions with regular pathway learners were obliged to re-register their Grade 6 students for KPSEA using KNEC’s online registration site.

Furthermore, schools were instructed to register only legitimate candidates, with a warning that scammers would face severe consequences.

“Registering ghost candidates constitutes an assessment malpractice, which attracts sanctions, including the de-registration of the school as a KNEC assessment center,” KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere warned.

Njegere issued the notice during the official introduction of registrations in January.

Candidates requesting transfers to other schools were advised to finish the process before the registration window closes on February 28.
