ODM’S Oburu Resigns From Powerful Energy Committee, Elgeyo Marakwet’s Kisang Replaces Him
Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has resigned as chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, saying the reasons for his decision were beyond his control.
Oburu announced his resignation during a meeting of the committee on Tuesday.
“The reasons (why I am vacating) are beyond my own self-control. I have resigned. Nobody should say that I have been removed,” Oburu said.
“There is no coup here. There is only a peaceful transfer, and whoever you elect will peacefully take over. I thank everyone once again,” he added.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang was unanimously elected as Oburu’s successor.
Kisang, who had been serving as the committee’s vice chairperson, thanked members for electing him and acknowledged the responsibility of taking over from Oburu.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank members of this committee for having confidence in me and electing me as the chair,” Kisang said.
“I am taking over from the ODM party leader whose shoes are very big. We are going to use your guidance as our patron to ensure our people get power (electricity).”

Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla was elected as the new vice chairperson, succeeding Kisang.
Ogolla thanked Oburu and ODM for giving her the opportunity to lead the committee.
“I want to thank the party leader for holding our hands. Also want to thank members of this committee for giving me this chance,” she said.
Oburu will remain a member of the Energy Committee following his resignation as chair.
His departure from the chairmanship comes ahead of the 2027 General Election and gives him an opportunity to concentrate on ODM affairs.
