
Kenyan Police Killed, Another Wounded And Their Rifles Stolen in Mandera
A squad of gunmen thought to be renegade officers of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) shot and killed a Kenyan police officer in a surprise attack at a border crossing in Mandera.

The Federal Republic of Somalia’s national intelligence agency is known as NISA.
According to police, five Border Police Unit officers stationed at border point 4 between Kenya and Somalia were attacked by approximately 20 NISA officers.
The group opened fire on the Kenyan team, killing constable Dennis Omari instantaneously on Friday, March 14. They also fired and injured the second cop.

He was hurt in the left upper hand and is currently receiving treatment at Mandera Referral Hospital in stable condition, according to police. This compelled the other officers to seek shelter.
The attackers took the slain officer’s G3 rifle, which contained 60 rounds, as well as another cop’s AK47 gun, which contained 30 bullets.
They fled the scene. Police later stated that the incident was payback for the previous arrest of terror suspects when a group attempted to kidnap Chinese people in the area last month.
Police stated the incident was planned by the brother of one of the accused, who is a NISA official. Somalia has yet to react to the situation.
Senior police officials went to the location as part of the investigation into the attack.
Tension rose in the area as residents feared additional attacks from the rogue group.
Police officials stated they are investigating the incident and vowed justice for the attack.
Following the botched kidnapping, anti-terrorism detectives from the Mandera detachment apprehended the Assistant Chief of Bula Power Substation in Mandera Town.

The administrator is being investigated for his alleged role in the attempted and unlawful processing of Kenyan IDs in favour of two foreign people who are suspected terrorists.
On February 18, the suspects, named Isack Mohammed Abdi and Noor Yakub Ali, were apprehended in the town as part of a foiled kidnapping plan targeting Chinese people.
Yussuf Maalim Issak, the administrator, is suspected of facilitating the procurement of an acknowledgement for registration slip/ID waiting card for the terror suspects.
The accused were apprehended as they plotted to kidnap a group of foreign nationals working on a sewer line in Mandera.
