‘I Will Unite Meru Leaders!’ – Vows New Governor Mutuma

Newly sworn-in Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma says his top objective as he takes office is to restore peace and cohesiveness in the county.

Mutuma admitted that the county is experiencing significant divisions among leaders, emphasizing the urgent need to address this as it is the foundation of progress.

“I will reach out to all leaders-elected, nominated, appointed, religious leaders, community elders and even those in the business sector,” he said.

“Together, we shall forge a united force for the betterment of Meru.”

He also told locals that he would engage them both directly and indirectly through elected leaders, emphasizing the importance of working together to overcome underlying challenges and restore the county’s glory.

He stated that his appointment represents the beginning of new leadership in the county, stressing that political grandstanding has come to an immediate halt.

Mutuma, who was sworn in on Monday morning, becomes Meru’s fourth governor, succeeding the impeached Kawira Mwangaza.

The court upheld Mwangaza’s impeachment on March 14.

Justice Bahati Mwamuye found that the petition contesting Mwangaza’s removal did not meet the legal standard for overturning the Senate’s decision.

He confirmed that Mwangaza received a fair hearing and dismissed her request to overturn the gazette notice confirming her expulsion.

A High Court judge presided over the swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Mwendantu grounds in Meru.
