MP Salasya Breaks Silence After Being Roughed Up At Nyayo Stadium
On Sunday, March 23, Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was beaten and forced to leave the Nyayo Stadium in distressing scenes.
Salasya was one of thousands of Kenyans who turned out for the country’s important World Cup qualifier against Gabon.
However, the outspoken legislator’s visit to the stadium was cut short due to a confrontation with a member of the audience.
Salasya is seen attempting to break free from an enraged throng that roughed him up and forced him to leave the stadium.

At one point, some of the mob attempted to grab the MP and beat him up, while one unscrupulous supporter threw what appeared to be a plastic container at him.
The commotion spread to the stadium’s parking lot, when tens of supporters flocked to the congressman, pushing him to leave the grounds.
While it is unknown why Salasya was ejected, several supporters at the scene were heard yelling “Respect the President”.

This appears to be revenge for something the MP said or did to President William Ruto.
President Ruto attended the Nyayo Stadium event on Sunday afternoon, shortly after making a brief appearance following the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Naivasha.
Salasya appeared to take a simple jab at his adversaries on social media seconds after the incident.
“I didn’t want to commit blood in my hands. I had options but I chose peace,” he wrote.

The Salasya incident was just one of numerous memorable incidents at Nyayo Stadium before the Kenya-Gabon game.
Hundreds of supporters broke security regulations by removing a gate to access the stadium before the match.
It is unknown where security staff were at the time of the tragedy, but it is believed that they were overwhelmed by the growing crowd outside the stadium.
Limited ticket-scanning zones exacerbated the issue for security staff, resulting in long lines and increased frustration among supporters who legitimately acquired tickets to the game.
