School Program Halted After MP, Parents Storm In Demanding Principal’s Resignation

Learning was halted at Kakuyuni Boys Secondary School on Wednesday when a group of parents stormed the building demanding the ouster of the school principal.

Led by Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi, the parents accused the Principal of mismanagement of the school and blamed him for the school’s poor performance in past national exams.

Parents have voiced concern over the school principal’s regular decision to send pupils home for a variety of reasons.

This severely limits students’ time in class and has a detrimental influence on their academic performance.

“In this school, we have some students who are day scholars, but they hardly stay in class,” one parent decried.

“Today they are sent away for fees, the next day for their hair, the day after for coming late, and the cycle continues—meaning the students do not learn.”

MP Mnyazi claimed that she had received multiple complaints from pupils at the school, with the bulk, if not all, directed at the principal.

While assuring parents of the changes, the MP revealed that she had already filed a formal complaint letter with the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) asking for the principal’s resignation.

“I have already written a letter to the TSC asking for an internal and thorough investigation at Kakuyuni Boys High School,” the MP assured.

“I have further requested his removal since the community has rejected him.”

This is not the first time a community has targeted a school principal for mismanagement of school resources and poor performance in KCSE examinations.

These episodes show an increasing trend of parental discontent, which is frequently directed at school officials, despite appeals from education stakeholders to handle performance concerns jointly.
