Governor Under Fire For Allegedly Kidnapping, Torture Of Top County Official
Hussein Khalid, CEO of Vocal Africa, has revealed details about an unresolved kidnapping case involving a former county official from Isiolo County in Kenya’s northeast.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 15, Khalid disclosed that the county’s former Chief Officer of Health had just been kidnapped and tortured.
He pointed at Governor Ali Guyo, who, for legal reasons, he chose not to name at this time.
Despite efforts to secure justice for him, Khalid stated that the relevant authorities had failed to make any arrests, despite the fact that the evidence in the case was supposedly overwhelming.
“At Vocal Africa, we are presently following up on a matter where a former Chief Officer (Health) was abducted, apparently by the Governor of the same County and tortured,” Khalid stated.

Although he did not disclose any information, he added that the evidence presented to police investigators included clear CCTV footage implicating the governor.
As a result, Khalid requested that the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) step in to fix the situation as soon as possible.
“The matter has been reported at various police stations, yet no action has been taken despite the abductors being known and all evidence, including CCTV footage, being shared,” Khalid stated.
“We demand immediate action by IPOA and DCI to end impunity in the country.”
According to the county’s human rights organization, people and leaders are fearful of instances that have been described as intimidation techniques.
The statement was accompanied by two photographs of the former county official, both of which showed him fresh from the hospital and still wearing the drip.
Members of the County Assembly have also stated that their lives are in danger after filing a motion to impeach the governor.
They have reportedly turned off their phones and gone into hiding since submitting the motion last Tuesday.

This research comes at a sensitive time in Kenya when cases of forced disappearances and extrajudicial executions have put people on edge.
Over the last week, activists and politicians have called for justice in the killing of teacher-cum-blogger Albert Ojwang.
Ojwant died in police custody after being captured in Homa Bay and driven over 350 km to Nairobi last Saturday.
Following the incident, Kenyans expressed their love for Ojwang’s father and demanded that high government officials be held accountable.
