“I’m Ready To Go,” President Ruto Declares After Deadly Protests

President William Ruto has condemned the latest rallies, which occurred on Wednesday, June 25, calling them a well-planned attempt to bring disorder and damage the country.

The President, speaking on Friday afternoon at World MSME Day in Nairobi, stated that what happened on Wednesday was not protests, but hooliganism masquerading as peaceful processions.

Ruto expressed his dissatisfaction with the demonstrations and stated that he was prepared to resign.

However, only if those opposing his leadership demonstrated a superior strategy for the nation.

He advised Kenyans who oppose his government to seek change through the vote in 2027 rather than using inciting slogans like ‘one term’ and ‘must go’ in rallies and demonstrations.

“If you persuade us, I can also go and concentrate on farming and help in food security, if you have a better plan, but do not burn the country,” President Ruto said.

“If it is Ruto must go, then tell me how you want me to go. What do you mean by Ruto must go? Look for a better plan and convince the people of Kenya. You cannot replace a plan you don’t like with no plan,” he added.

The President was deeply disappointed by the burning of buildings and looting of businesses, which he claimed wiped out billions of shillings’ worth of investments in just hours.

According to him, the hardest hit by this week’s riots were hardworking traders and businesspeople who awoke early to discover their companies destroyed.

Ruto also accused certain opposition lawmakers of instigating young Kenyans to demonstrate.

To provide justice for those affected by the protests, Ruto directed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to swiftly speed investigations and arrest those responsible for the recent property destruction and looting.

“The perpetrators of violence, looting, and destruction during the June 25 protests must be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, swiftly and decisively,” Ruto ordered.

“I expect the Inspector General of Police and all relevant security agencies to conduct immediate, thorough, and speedy investigations into the violent protests on June 25,” he added.
