Amnesty Kenya Demands Release of ‘Time Table’ Activist Six Days After His Abduction

Amnesty Kenya has sought the release of blogger and activist Ndiangui Kinyagia, who has been missing since Saturday, June 21, following a purported raid on his home in Kinoo.

The calls come as authorities face mounting pressure to account for the blogger’s and activists’ whereabouts six days after he went missing.

Amnesty Kenya has blamed the abduction on agents from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

They are demanding Kinyagia’s release or his appearance in court, rather than his continued detention incommunicado.

“Free Ndiangui Kinyagia. He was last seen on June 21 after a reported raid by DCI officers at his home in Kinoo,” Amnesty demanded.

“We call for his immediate release. If he is accused of any crime, let him be presented before a court of law—not held incommunicado.”

According to family members, Kinyagia, a 31-year-old IT expert and outspoken internet commentator, vanished under mysterious circumstances.

This comes after a gang of guys, thought to be DCI officers, encircled his Kinoo housing complex.

According to witnesses, the officers arrived in many unmarked vehicles and camped outside for nearly nine hours before forcibly entering his residence.

According to the family, they reported the incident to the Kinoo police station, but the officers denied any knowledge of the operation or Kinyagia’s location.

In response to his disappearance, activist Boniface Mwangi expressed concern that the blogger may be detained by the National Intelligence Service and tortured.

“This man is being held, and likely tortured in a detention hole run by the National Intelligence Service and Directorate of Criminal Investigations,” Mwangi alleged.

According to Mwangi, Kinyagia’s forced disappearance is a reflection of the continued injustice to youths and abuse of power by leaders who are after Kenyans expressing their opinions.

Unfortunately, despite explaining the events, Kinyagia missed the protests and has been missing since his forced abduction.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) also took up the case, with President Faith Odhiambo calling the episode a serious erosion of constitutional rights.

The LSK is planning a court application to compel the police to produce Kinyagia and explain the events surrounding the raid.
