Hanifa made this statement after seeing the injured who were also hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) following the June 17 protest injuries.
Doing my rounds at KNH and most gun shot patients have been discharged very few left. Even Mike Kamau who was in a very state when he came in with six bullets is doing well and will be discharged tomorrow ❤️❤️❤️

She stated that the majority of gunshot victims have been discharged, with only a few remaining, including one who will be discharged on July 2.

On June 18, KNH CEO William Sigilai reported that 16 patients had been hospitalized and were undergoing treatment, following the June 17 protests over the death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang while in police detention.
“In total, we received 16 casualties in our accident and emergency centre yesterday from the protests. The injuries that were described ranged from gunshot wounds to blunt trauma,” he stated.

Of the 16 patients, seven were admitted to the facility for further care, while nine were treated and discharged.
Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, a vendor, was one of the patients shot and admitted to KNH. He died on June 30, 2025.
Mwangi’s father, Jonah Kariuki, told the press that they were experiencing financial issues after Mwangi had been in the ICU for more than two weeks.
“All I can say is that we have a tough task ahead, as getting him out of there (the mortuary) is hard because we do not have money. We are seeking help from Kenyans,” Jonah Kariuki, his father, stated.
