Protesters Overrun Police Lines In Kitengela, Kisii Towns
Police in Kitengela and Kisii were forced to use tear gas as thousands of stubborn youngsters attacked the towns’ core business areas.
Despite attempts to block main highways leading into and out of the towns, the teenagers turned out in significant numbers and overcame the police who manned the roadblocks.
Using stones and bonfires, the youngsters barricaded the roadways in Kitengela town, forcing businesses to close for fear of attack and looting.
Despite the heavy smoke from the tear gas that filled the air, the teens continued to engage the police in a cat-and-mouse game, refusing to back down.
A spot check revealed that some police officers used their firearms as they confronted the boisterous demonstrators.
