Kenya’s DPP Approves Terrorism Charges Against Gachagua’s Allies
The administration has filed terrorism charges against two allies connected to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to a charge document, the two allies, Peter Kinyanjui Kawanjiru and Serah Wanjiku Thiga, have been charged with alleged arson at Kikuyu Law Courts.
The Anti Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) submitted charges in court, which were approved by the Director of Public Prosecutions, stating that the two not only caused damage to the law courts but also to other government establishments in the area.
“On the 25th day of June, 2025 between 1200 hours and 2300 hours in Kikuyu area within Kiambu County, you and others before the court, committed a terrorist act which resulted to serious damage to Government Offices and Buildings,” the charge sheet read in part.

According to reports, personnel from the Director of Criminal Investigations violently pulled Kawanjiru, the DCP Youth leader, from his home at night on July 1 in front of his family.
The family claims that after 8:30 p.m., officers disguised in civilian clothes stormed their Limuru home, broke down doors, and strewn everything while claiming to be there to arrest him into prison.
Witnesses and family members recalled how the incident began, stating that more than 10 cars stormed the area, followed by a power outage, loud banging, gunfire, and chaos.

After four days, Kawanjiru appeared in court. However, after the DCP leader was arrested again by anti-terror police, there was drama outside the Ruiru Courts in Kiambu County, despite the fact that the court had released him.
Chaos erupted when Kawanjiru was on his way home after obtaining a bail for his release.
In videos posted online, anti-terror police forced Kawanjiru into a moving van while others fired rounds.
