THREE KDF Soldiers Killed By An IED Bomb In Lamu
On Tuesday, July 15, at least three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops were killed and seven others were injured when their truck exploded on the Kiunga-Sankuri road in Lamu County.
This occurred after an improvised explosive device detonated in the Badaah region, according to police and witnesses.
According to Lamu East Deputy County Commissioner George Kubai, the soldiers returning from Sankuri were transporting colleagues when their truck collided with a hidden device.
The injured soldiers were taken to Kiunga Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a significant effort was begun to apprehend individuals responsible for putting the explosive device, with people alleging that the area is under threat of terrorism.

The KDF, in coordination with local police, has initiated a comprehensive operation to find those who planted the explosive.
Security personnel are increasing patrols and checkpoints on the Kiunga-Sankuri route.
According to a statement released by Kenya Defence Forces Strategic Communications, troops on patrol along the Sankuri-Kiunga Main Supply Route (MSR) came across an improvised explosive device (IED) early Tuesday afternoon.
“Immediately after the incident, multi-agency security teams launched operations in pursuit of perpetrators of the heinous act and have heightened the manning of routes in and out of the area to deny the enemy freedom of movement,” the statement reads.
The KDF further stated that the injured servicemen were transported to specialised military medical institutions in the region and are responding well to treatment.
“Regrettably, three gallant soldiers succumbed to their injuries. These soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the citizens of Kenya. The entire KDF fraternity condoles with their families,” the statement reads.
“Kenya Defence Forces recognises the courage demonstrated by the personnel and appreciates the swift response by multi-agency teams operating in the area.”

The KDF stated that they, together with the broader multi-agency Operation Amani Boni fraternity, are unwavering in their determination to achieve long-term peace in their area of responsibility.
Lt Gen David Ketter, the Kenya Army’s commander, paid a visit to the area over the weekend.
Lt Gen Ketter paid a visit to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel serving in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and Operation Amani Boni (OAB) in Lamu County.
The visits were aimed at boosting and maintaining soldier morale while also assessing ongoing operations.
Lamu is under Operation Amani Boni, which aims to drive out Al-Shabaab bands operating in the area. For years, Lamu has been the site of terrorist assaults on both locals and security officers.
