‘My Gov’t Will Account For Every Coin!’ – Maraga Tells Kenyans
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has pledged to defend Kenyans’ rights and wealth if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Maraga made the statements at a town hall gathering in Kirinyaga County, as he began his statewide journey to rally support for his presidential campaign.
“If you allow me to be your leader, I will take care of your wealth,” he said.
“I will make sure those I will work with in government—the ministers, Principal Secretaries and others—will account for every coin they receive in their respective departments.”
“I will have an economic team to audit every proposal to confirm that the requested amount is merited before releasing the money. I will also ensure end-of-year account reviews for every coin given,” he added.

Maraga stated that the method would ensure that sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure receive appropriate funding.
He harshly criticized the government for what he saw as misappropriation of public funds, noting exorbitant allocations to State House operations and funding for ghost schools.
He said that this has resulted in economic deterioration, youth unemployment, and blocked infrastructure projects such as roads, schools, and hospitals.

“A large sum of money is being allocated to less priority institutions,” Maraga said.
He also rejected the government’s empowerment efforts, calling them a ruse to fool citizens. He asked Kenyans to question the source of such cash.
“The money coming to you in the form of empowerment is your money… and is now being returned to you to show that they care,” he said.
Maraga also committed to protect the rule of law if elected, claiming that the country’s issues originate from a failure to follow legal and governance structures.
