IEBC Issues Voting Procedures For Upcoming November 27 By-Elections
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued the voting procedures for the upcoming November 27 by-elections.
In a public service broadcast, the IEBC stated that polling places would be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on voting day.
Kenyans registered to vote in the 24 jurisdictions must bring their national identification card or official Kenyan passport.
They will hand over this paper to the returning officers at the voting stations.
Their fingerprints will then be entered into the KIEMS kit to confirm their registration before they are given a ballot paper on which to make their choices.
They will next be obliged to vote in privacy and place the ballot paper in the ballot box. After voting, one’s finger will be marked to ensure they don’t vote twice.
The sole county to have a county-wide vote will be Baringo County, which will elect a new senator following the death of William Cheptumo on February 16, 2025.
Gideon Moi, the county’s former senator, announced his intention to run for re-election before quitting in favour of the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) candidate, Kiprono Cherubet, who is supported by President William Ruto.
The Kasipul, Malava, and Banissa constituencies will elect new MPs in the wake of the deaths of Ong’ondo Were (shot), Malulu Injendi (sickness), and Kullow Maalim Hassan (road accident).
Ugunja and Mbeere North will elect new MPs to replace Opiyo Wandayi and Geoffrey Ruku, who have been named Energy and Public Service Cabinet Secretaries, respectively.
The Supreme Court annulled the 2022 Magarini constituency election, prompting a by-election.
