Veteran Radio Presenter Has Died Shortly After Tribute To Friend
Festus Amimo, the Head of Radio Mayienga at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), died on Sunday, December 7, according to a statement released by the station.
Amimo, well-known for his commanding voice and engaging flair, died unexpectedly just hours after posting a social media tribute to a friend.
The experienced broadcaster hosted the well-known Mayienga FM morning show (Gari Mokinyi).
Mayienga FM characterized the loss as shocking, recalling him as a dedicated professional with an unrivalled passion for radio.
“It is with profound shock, deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our head of station, Festus Amimo,” Mayienga FM posted.

Friends, relatives, and coworkers paid tribute to the lifelong journalist.
Interior PS Raymond Omollo expressed shock and sorrow over the passing, characterizing it as unpleasant and unexpected.
“Festus was a warm soul, a steady presence and a true friend whose kindness and humility touched everyone around him,” Omollo said.
Radio stations, particularly those broadcasting in Dholuo, also delivered tributes.
“Officials and journalists at Radio Namlolwe extend their most profound condolences concerning the sudden passing of Mayienga FM head of radio, Festus Amimo,” Namlolwe Radio posted.

Amimo sent a message on Friday, December 5, soon before his death, to lament the loss of a dear friend.
“We have this evening lost a friend, Rose Yier. RIP,” he wrote.
Aside from KBC, Amimo was Chair of the Luo Journalists Association, where he played an important role in mentoring young journalists.
The radio station had yet to reveal the cause of his death at the time of publishing this article.
