Langata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix (Jalango) Odiwuor has urged relevant authorities to halt all construction activity in Nairobi’s South C neighborhood following the collapse of a 16-story structure under construction in the region on Friday, January 2.

According to a statement posted on Facebook shortly after the Kenya Red Cross confirmed the development, Jalongo condemned the incident on Muhoho Road in South C, Langata Constituency, which trapped numerous individuals beneath the wreckage.

”Our greatest concern is the safety of those affected, and we pray that no lives have been lost,” the legislator took to Facebook.

“We unequivocally demand the immediate and total suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West wards.”

As the investigation continues, Jalango has appealed for urgency in determining the cause of the fall. He also urged the affected families to be calm.

”This halt must remain in effect until full approvals, safety audits, and compliance verifications are conducted by all relevant authorities,” he said.

“The continued disregard for construction regulations and public safety must come to an end before more lives are put at risk.”

”As investigations proceed, we call upon all responsible agencies to act with urgency, transparency, and accountability,” Jalango added.

“To the families and loved ones affected, we ask you to remain calm and know that the nation stands with you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we hope for the safe rescue of everyone involved.”
