Close Ruto Ally Announces Bid for President in 2027

Eliud Owalo, Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency, has launched his candidacy for president in the 2027 general election.

Owalo made the announcement on Sunday during the 106th anniversary of the death of his grandfather, Prophet Johanna Owalo, the founder of the Nomiya Church, at the church’s headquarters in Oboch, Kisumu County.

“Come 2027, I will submit myself as a candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya,” Owalo said, citing his record as a performer, a results-oriented leader, and a risk-taker.

The announcement represents a dramatic political shift for Owalo, who formerly collaborated with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Musalia Mudavadi and is now serving under President William Ruto.

He explained that his choice signals a shift away from supporting specific political individuals and toward providing development achievements for Kenyans.

Speaking after the church service, Owalo urged Nyanza citizens to embrace what he described as an action-oriented politics rather than rhetoric.

He also supported the formation of new political parties in order to establish multiparty democracy in the Nyanza region.

In his speech, Owalo underlined that overcoming poverty requires a development program that prioritizes big infrastructure projects such as dams, railroads, highways, and airports over demonstrations and slogans.

The Chief of Staff mentioned the extension of water systems like the Koru-Soin dams to combat flooding, improve water availability, assist power generation, and improve food security.

Furthermore, Owalo advocated for the expansion of Kisumu International Airport to facilitate cargo handling and the direct export of fish, agricultural produce, and other goods to overseas markets.

He further proposed the establishment of factories for processing livestock products, hides and skins, potatoes, avocado, tea, coffee, and soapstone to promote value addition in Nyanza.

Additionally, Owalo continued to advocate for the revival of the sugar, rice, and cotton industries that have been out of commission for years.

The annual commemoration of Prophet Johanna Owalo’s death provided a symbolic platform for Owalo to link his personal legacy with his national ambitions and vision for development-driven leadership.
