United Opposition Set To Announce Presidential Flag Bearer For 2027 Polls

Following the end of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) National Delegates Conference, the United Opposition has declared that it will reveal its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

According to the alliance, this action is intended to challenge President William Ruto by putting up a unified front.

The opposition leaders also disclosed their intention to file a lawsuit against those responsible for the recent attack on DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua at an Othaya church.

They gave a speech at the National Delegates Conference of the Democratic Party of Kenya, which took place at Ufungamano House in Nairobi County.

The leaders maintained that political disturbance has no place in Kenya’s democratic atmosphere and condemned the occurrence as an attack on free speech and democracy.

They also promised to pursue justice through the judicial system.

Rigathi Gachagua, the head of the DCP, utilized the occasion to reiterate his dedication to opposition unity.

In order to guarantee that there is only one presidential candidate running against President Ruto in the 2027 general elections, Gachagua declared that party and personal sacrifices would be made.

Gachagua stated that the opposition was committed to preventing President Ruto from serving a second term and that the only way to do it in 2027 was via unity.

The head of the Wiper Party, Kalonzo Musyoka, echoed the appeal for solidarity by stating that all candidates supporting the “one-term movement” will be gathered in a national forum.

He said the meeting would also focus on boosting voter registration nationwide.

Kalonzo noted that expanding voter numbers would be critical in strengthening the opposition’s chances, adding that collective planning would eliminate divisions that could weaken their campaign.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i dismissed claims of internal rifts within the opposition, warning that those banking on divisions would be disappointed.

He emphasized that the leaders were committed to standing together.

“For anyone who’s betting on our differences, you will lose your bet. We are going to stand together, and we are going to remain united,” concluded Matiang’i.

Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua said the opposition was bound by a shared vision of restoring constitutionalism, accountability, and better governance in the country.

Karua emphasized that the coalition’s unity was driven by principles rather than convenience, with a focus on strengthening institutions and upholding the rule of law.

“History will judge us not by what we said, but by whether we rose when the nation needed us most,” Concluded Muturi.
