Neighbour disagreements in the UK may quickly spin out of control, as one Kenyan woman’s terrible example demonstrates.

A 49-year-old Kenyan former nurse living in Ashford, Kent, has become the focus of a frightening attempted arson investigation.

The entire experience was captured on 20 minutes of Ring Doorbell CCTV footage from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the primary public agency responsible for criminal prosecutions in England and Wales.

The footage shows the woman striking and throwing three lit matches right at the front door.

According to CPS, the incident occurred in the early morning, when the woman allegedly sneaked to her neighbour’s front door, clothed in a gown and slippers.

Her neighbour and her entire family were apparently sleeping inside the house when the attack occurred.

Prosecutors at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court later described the event as a premeditated vengeance attack motivated by a long-running neighbourhood dispute.

“This was a deliberate attempt to set fire to an occupied home, the consequences could have been truly catastrophic,” prosecutors told the court.

According to CPS, heavy rain on the night of the incident saturated the doormat, preventing the matches from igniting and resulting in no fire.

There were no recorded injuries or property damage, but police and prosecutors claimed the situation could have turned out much worse.

Prosecutors at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court said the attack was “a revenge act” arising from a long-standing neighbourhood dispute.

“This was a deliberate attempt to set fire to an occupied home. The consequences could have been catastrophic,” the prosecution told the court.

CPS moved quickly to charge the Kenyan woman after the ring camera footage provided clear, undeniable evidence of the act.

Her defence team informed the court that the Kenyan woman lives with bipolar disorder and was experiencing intense personal pressure alongside serious health challenges at the time of the incident.

The magistrate acknowledged her mental health challenges but firmly stated that attempted arson remains a serious criminal offence regardless of circumstances.

After entering a guilty plea, the Kenyan woman was sentenced to four months in prison, a term that was fully suspended for eighteen months.

A strict five-year restraining order was also issued by the magistrate, banning her completely from contacting or going anywhere near her neighbour, whom she attacked.

She was later ordered to pay Ksh15,000 in court costs and to comply with mandatory mental health supervision throughout her sentence.
