NAKURU: School Stormed By Parents, Villagers Following Student’s Death
Tension erupted at Njoro Girls High School in Nakuru County on Monday after villagers and parents protested the death of a Form Four girl, Brenda Akinyi, under unknown circumstances.
The demonstrations resulted in a brief confrontation between police and demonstrators, with cops dispersing crowds gathering outside the school seeking answers about the student’s murder.
Brenda, 18, died at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital after apparently becoming ill at school.

The family has accused the school administration of carelessness, claiming that Brenda did not receive proper medical attention and that they were not promptly notified of her condition.
According to relatives, the family lives a short distance from the school and could have interfered sooner if they had been informed.
Brenda’s brother, Allan Otieno, stated that he was told his sister had been sick for several days and was only given painkillers.

He questioned why the family was not notified sooner, given their proximity to the school.
Brenda’s mother, Millicent Anyango, expressed grief and outrage at their home, blaming her daughter’s death on the school’s delayed medical response.
She claimed she just discovered the seriousness of her daughter’s illness when it was too late.
Some parents who joined the protests claimed that Brenda’s case was not isolated, alleging that other students had died in similar circumstances at the school in recent years.

They called for an independent investigation into the school’s handling of student health emergencies.
However, the Nakuru County Director of Education dismissed claims of negligence by the school, saying preliminary records indicate that Brenda had a history of illness.
Education officials said due process would be followed to establish the facts surrounding her death.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death, as investigations continue into the circumstances leading to the student’s illness and subsequent demise.
