Homa Bay Deputy Governor Goes After Gladys Wanga Over Office Closure
Gladys Wanga, the governor of Homa Bay, has faced a setback after her deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, filed a lawsuit challenging her purported decision to close the latter’s office.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, February 5, Magwanga revealed that he has filed a court petition seeking orders compelling Wanga to reopen his office, which he claims has been locked since last year.
According to the deputy governor, the shutdown has left him without a workspace, preventing him from serving the citizens of Homa Bay County.
“I went to court to petition the court to order the governor to unlock my office that she locked last year,” Magwanga said.

“She has rendered me jobless. I have nowhere to sit to offer my services to the people of Homa Bay.”
He claimed that keeping his office closed hampers service delivery and denies county citizens the assistance and representation they are entitled to.
Magwanga went on to say that he cannot perform his duties from home or under a tree, stressing that his position needs him to be in the county office.
The deputy governor further said that there has been no formal contact from Governor Wanga regarding alternative arrangements since his office has been locked.
He urged the governor to reconsider her decision and reopen the office even before the court’s ruling.

“There has never been any communication from her instructing me on what to do. This is a disservice to the people of Homa Bay,” Magwanaga lamented.
“I want to appeal to her to make the necessary arrangements to open my office before the court pronounces itself,” he said.
Magwanga hinted at a future battle during his speech, proclaiming his ambition to run for governor of Homa Bay in the 2027 general election.
“As Joseph Oyugi Magwanga, who vied for the governor’s position in 2017 and is now her deputy, I will be on the ballot in 2027 as governor for Homa Bay County. Let her prepare to face off with me,” he stated.
