Kanini Kega Ditches Jubilee, Joins Nelson Havi To Gachagua’s DCP
Nelson Havi, former President of the Law Society of Kenya, has formally joined former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The experienced lawyer made this bid official on Wednesday, February 4, after being seen with Rigathi Gachagua in his party offices in Lavington, Nairobi, while dressed in DCP Party regalia.
In a statement, Gachagua expressed his joy in what he regarded as a formidable legal intellect among the party’s members.
Gachagua stated that Havi’s inclusion increases the party’s capacity for monitoring and responsibility, and that the organization serves as a political home for progressive professionals seeking leadership.
“DCP party requires great legal minds for legislation, representation, and oversight,” stated Gachagua.

“I am happy to welcome Nelson Havi SC, one of the greatest legal minds in the country, to walk with us in his quest to represent the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly.”
On Saturday, January 3, Havi indicated his shift during the burial of MP James Gakuya’s mother in Murang’a County.
His departure comes barely five months after leaving from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which he joined in 2021.
During the funeral, the lawyer declared unwavering commitment to Gachagua, implying a political reunion that might transform Nairobi’s political environment ahead of Kenya’s upcoming general elections.
“When we were in the quest of putting the current government in power, MP Gakuya was our chairman,” Havi stated at the emotional Saturday burial ceremony.
He also stated that whenever the former Deputy President sets a direction, they will follow, emphasizing his devotion to Gachagua’s new political party.
Havi resigned from the UDA on November 7, 2024, in a letter addressed to Secretary General Hassan Omar and copied to Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou.
