Embattled Governor Blasts MPs Over Circulating Propaganda Against Him
The Kiambu County government has accused a group of political figures of distributing fake material on social media in an attempt to discredit Governor Kimani Wamatangi, describing the effort as planned and politically motivated.
The Directorate of Communication at the Office of the County Governor issued a statement on February 12, 2026, stating that it had noticed a prolonged internet campaign targeting the governor and the county administration.
The statement connected the content to certain Members of Parliament and persons who identified as their internet followers.
“We have taken note of a sustained and clearly orchestrated wave of propaganda and gutter politics flooding social media peddled by certain Members of Parliament (MPs) and their bloggers, targeting His Excellency Governor Kimani Wamatangi and the County Government of Kiambu,” the statement said.

The county government rejected the online charges, stating that they did not constitute a valid inspection of the public office.
“This is not constructive criticism or honest debate,” it said.
“It is naked desperation by a small clique of disgruntled Kiambu politicians trying to claw their way back into relevance by peddling lies and half-truths.”
According to the statement, the campaign’s organizers were attempting to discredit the governor’s record by circulating false information.
The county administration said that images and information uploaded online were falsified in order to cast an unfavorable light on Kiambu’s health and emergency services.
The statement stated that images from outside the area were being misrepresented as local situations, including photographs purporting to show bodies in mortuaries and ambulances in terrible condition.
The county government condemned the incident as a premeditated attempt to mislead the public and sway political opinion against the governor.
“This is a well-calculated and cynical deception aimed at misleading the public and trying to poison the political environment against Governor Wamatangi,” the statement said.
The Directorate of Communication stated that those attacking the governor should focus on performance and policy.
“If anyone wishes to challenge Governor Wamatangi, let them do so with a solid track record or a serious and believable plan to surpass what has already been achieved,” the statement said.
It further argued that comparisons based on development outcomes favoured the current administration, asserting that the governor’s record made it difficult for opponents to mount a credible challenge.
Despite the negative talk about Kiambu, it is still one of the best counties in managing money, according to financial records.

“The reality, however, is that Governor Wamatangi has set the bar so high that confronting him on performance and delivery would brutally expose just how empty and out of their depth his opponents really are,” it added.

The statement listed what it described as key achievements delivered under Governor Wamatangi’s leadership over the past three years.
The county government maintained that voters were capable of distinguishing between political messaging and service delivery.
“They know the difference between politics and progress, and no amount of cheap propaganda, recycled lies or manufactured scandals will erase the real and measurable gains that have been made under Governor Wamatangi’s leadership,” it said.
The statement was issued by the Directorate of Communication in the Office of the County Governor of Kiambu.
