DCI Confirms Arrests Of Several Goons From Tuju, Nyakera Property Attacks
The police have confirmed the arrest of several goons who attacked the properties of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju and former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera in Nairobi and Kisumu, respectively.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Amin Mohammed confirmed the arrest of some of the said goons, and they would be arraigned in court.
Amin was speaking during a security meeting with county commanders on Thursday, March 12, at the Police Leadership Academy.
“Goons are basically criminals, and we have no place for criminals,” Amin stated.
“We have taken note of the incidents that took place in Karen and Kisumu, and we have already arrested a couple of people who have already been arraigned before the court, and for some, we are in the process of identifying them.”
Confirming the arrest, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja reiterated Amin’s comments.
Kanja emphasised that the authority has no space for goons, especially at a time when the country is heading towards the 2027 General Elections.
“Goons are criminals, and we don’t have space for goons,” Kanja said.
“We have arrested many, and we have taken many to court. The DCI is busy making sure that those who are not conforming are taken to court.”
Their comments followed a series of incidents on Wednesday, March 11, when goons reportedly attacked businesses owned by former state officials.
On Wednesday night, auctioneers, accompanied by security personnel alongside goons, attacked Raphael Tuju’s property in Karen in what was alleged as an attempted forceful eviction after a successful auction of the property.
However, the former CS was seen confronting the individuals, something that caused tensions in the usually quiet area.
Tuju said he was surprised by their presence, adding that the group was claiming they were representing the new owners of the property following an attempted auction.
The incident comes days after the High Court cleared the way for the auction of the property to clear the debt of over Ksh1.9 billion, dating back over a decade, though Tuju vowed not to vacate.

Earlier, in the early hours of Wednesday, goons attacked a hotel owned by Irungu Nyakera in Kisumu, causing damage worth millions and injuring security officers and staff working at the hotel.
The incident forced Nyakera to fire gunshots in the air to disperse the attackers, whom he said were hired by his political opponents.
The use of goons has recently drawn attention following a series of attacks on businesses and political rallies.
Police have warned politicians against hiring goons, noting that anybody who is found to have hired goons to attack opponents shall face the full force of the law.
