Kenya Railways Announces Temporary Disruption On It’s Mombasa Fleet
Kenya Railways has announced a temporary traffic disruption along Moi Avenue in Mombasa to allow for emergency repair works on the Mbaraki Rail Over Road Bridge.
The affected section will stretch from the Moi Avenue-Tangana Road roundabout to the Moi Avenue-Mogadishu Road roundabout.
Kenya Railways, in a notice issued on Friday, advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly.
The closure is scheduled for Sunday, March 15, this year, from 6am to 10pm, and will be necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway infrastructure.
Drivers travelling from KPA Gate 10 and the Docks area are advised to use the alternative route via Mogadishu Road, Zanzibar Road, and Shimanzi Road.
Those heading to KPA Gate 10 and the Docks area should take Tangana Road, Mijikenda Street, Lumumba Road, and Shimanzi Road as an alternative.
At the same time, the corporation further urged motorists to observe all traffic management arrangements and comply with instructions from police officers and traffic marshals on site.
“Motorists are further advised to observe traffic management arrangements and comply with instructions from police officers and traffic marshals on site,” read part of the notice.
“Kenya Railways regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation as these essential works are undertaken to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway infrastructure.”

The developments come at a time when the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has directed all unlawful roadside occupants at Mtito Andei along Mombasa Road to vacate the road reserve within 21 days.
KeNHA said the notice takes effect on March 17, adding that the directive targets traders and other unauthorised occupants operating along the section of the road in both directions.
According to KeNHA, the move is intended to facilitate planned service road improvements and drainage rehabilitation works along the section of the highway.
Mombasa Road, which forms part of the A8 highway that connects Kenya to Uganda, is one of the country’s key transport routes, linking two of the country’s largest cities.
