ODM Deputy Party Leader Recounts Plane Crash Scare After Survival
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was among the survivors after a plane crash-landed at Wilson Airport on the evening of Friday, March 20, 2026, with all passengers and crew escaping unharmed.
The aircraft was arriving from Kisumu when it veered off the runway during landing in what authorities described as a runway excursion.
According to officials, 39 people were on board at the time of the incident: 34 passengers and five crew members.
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) confirmed that the plane went off the runway at approximately 8:55pm, but emphasised that no injuries were reported.
“We wish to confirm that all passengers and crew are safe, with no injuries reported,” KAA stated.
“The aircraft remains on site, and recovery efforts are currently underway. Airport operations at Wilson Airport remain normal.”
Senator Osotsi recounted the tense moments during the landing, describing how the aircraft struggled before coming to a stop.
“I thank God for His protection after I came out safely from an aircraft accident at Wilson Airport this evening. I was among the 39 passengers on board the flight,” he said.
He commended the pilot’s actions, noting that the pilot showed remarkable skill and presence of mind in controlling the aircraft and steering it off the runway.
Osotsi noted that the pilot’s quick decision prevented a far worse outcome and that the action averted what could have been a catastrophic fire had the plane continued on the runway.

Nonetheless, the lawmaker raised concerns over the lack of emergency response at the airport following the incident.
He further criticised the absence of basic emergency services, stating that there was no ambulance on site and no emergency response team came to their aid.
“It is deeply troubling that despite the pilot’s efforts to save lives, there were no immediate rescue operations from the airport management. There was no ambulance on site,” he added.
Osostsi revealed that the accident occurred just days after he sought a statement in the Senate regarding safety concerns and the deteriorating infrastructure at Wilson Airport.
“Today’s events have only reinforced those concerns. The runway was flooded, and the lighting system was not functioning properly,” he disclosed.
