The government has announced a wide range of appointments and reappointments to state corporations, commissions, and boards made by several Cabinet Secretaries.
This move affects various institutions across the legal sector, finance, education, and public enterprises.
In a gazette notice published on Friday, Treasury CS John Mbadi appointed the CEO of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) market, Frank Mwiti, to serve as a member of the Search and Selection Panel of the next independent directors of the Government-Owned Enterprises.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 13 (1) of the Government Owned Enterprises Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury appoints the following to be Members of the Search and Selection Panel for the Recruitment of Independent Directors of the Government Owned Enterprises, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 17th April, 2026,” read part of the notice.
The panel will spearhead the appointment of the independent directors who will serve for a three-year term.
Other members of the panel include FCPA Risper Olick, Quresha Abdullahi, FCS Joshua Wambua, and Lawrence Kibet.
The developments come two months after the High Court of Kenya dismissed petitions challenging the Privatisation Act, 2025, on February 19, effectively paving the way for the sale of stakes in state-owned enterprises.
At the same time, Mbadi has reappointed Edward Kobuthi, Irene Njeri, Celine Anyango, David Nyakang’o, and Ambassador Wellington Pakia to the Privatisation Commission.
In another major appointment, the Attorney-General, Dorcas Oduor, appointed Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior as a member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC) for a five-year term effective April this year.
Mutula will be joined by Annette Imbuhila Wangia on the commission, and they are expected to help it strengthen its composition as it takes on its mandate of reviewing and developing legal reforms in the country.
