CS Murkomen Breaks Silence After Links To Ksh20 Billion Runda Land Grab
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly denied claims linking him to a multi-billion-shilling land dispute in Kiambu, terming the allegations false and misleading.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday night by the Ministry of Interior’s communication department, Murkomen dismissed a media report linking him to an alleged land-grabbing scheme involving a prime property.
The CS said the publication was based on ‘rumour, conjecture and wild allegations’.
He insisted that he has no personal interest in any way in the land in question and that he is not aware of its location or any ongoing dispute.
According to Murkomen, attempts to tie him to the contested property are baseless, adding that he has never participated in any dealings related to the land or its ownership.

“The Cabinet Secretary does not have an iota of personal interest in the property,” the statement read in part.
“In fact, he has no knowledge of the purported land, its location or the presence of a land dispute.”
He further addressed claims that he had deployed or directed police officers in relation to the dispute, clarifying that he does not engage in operational police work or patrols as alleged.
Murkomen explained that his role as Interior CS is limited to issuing general policy guidelines.
The guidelines are communicated formally through the office of the Inspector General of Police, and that not direct involvement in day-to-day police operations.
At the same time, he called on investigative agencies, including the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, to expedite investigations into the matter and ensure that the rights of legitimate landowners are protected.
The controversy stems from a report published by the Daily Nation, which detailed a long-running family dispute over a 300-acre parcel of land in the Runda area of Kiambu County, estimated to be worth about Ksh20 billion.

The report alleged that Murkomen, alongside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia, had been implicated in claims of protecting individuals accused of invading the land.
Petitioners in the case, including members of the Mbugua family, claimed that more than 200 people had taken over the property, with alleged backing from powerful individuals and security officers.
They also accused police officers from Kiambu of being compromised and failing to act on complaints, further alleging that some of the contested land had been transferred to a private company under questionable circumstances.
However, Murkomen has distanced himself entirely from the saga, maintaining that any police presence in land disputes is part of routine law enforcement and should not be interpreted as political interference.
