'Sadly, They Will Oppose!' - Moses Kuria Hits At Kenyans Stuck On Nairobi-Nakuru Traffic

Former CS Joins UDA, Aims For 2032 Presidential Seat

Former Cabinet Secretary and Presidential Advisor Moses Kuria has formally ditched his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), declaring his intention to contest for the presidency in 2032.

Kuria, who has in recent months sparked speculation over his political direction, confirmed that he will first seek to reclaim the Gatundu South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election on a UDA ticket.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday night, Kuria said his immediate focus is to return to elective politics before setting his sights on the country’s top seat.

He stated that his decision to join UDA is strategic and aligned with his long-term ambition to succeed President William Ruto after the latter completes his constitutional term.

“I’m going to vie for the Gatundu South MP seat where it all began. Right now, I have joined the UDA party because I will be running for president in 2032,” Kuria said.

Kuria has previously served as Cabinet Secretary in the Trade and Public Service dockets and has remained an influential figure within government circles despite stepping away from active electoral politics.

At the same time, he weighed in on the evolving succession dynamics within Kenya Kwanza, particularly the prospects of Kithure Kindiki being retained as Deputy President in 2027.

Kuria suggested that Kindiki still stands a ‘mathematical chance’ of remaining in the position, but noted that the political landscape remains fluid and unpredictable.

Further, he commented on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)’s chances of securing a running mate position in the 2027 elections.

Kuris observed that Oburu Oginga might stand a chance of being Ruto’s DP despite spirited attempts by Mining CS Hassan Joho.

“Kindiki may be retained; he has a mathematical chance of being retained,” Kuria said.

“Maybe, maybe not, fasten your seat belts, grab some popcorn. Oburu has a mathematical chance to be DP. He also wants power.”

Adding that, “Hassan Joho knows his place on the food chain; he is not going to be an outlier. He is a very calculated, reasonable person; he is going to play inside the field. Joho has two chances of being a running mate: slim and none.”

According to Kuria, while multiple leaders are positioning themselves for influence, only a few have realistic chances of securing top slots in future political arrangements.

On the Mt Kenya political landscape, Kuria cautioned against what he described as ‘snake oil salesmanship’.

The former CS accused some leaders of misleading the region on its electoral significance and future political direction.

He further dismissed narratives suggesting that President Ruto’s re-election prospects hinge solely on Mt Kenya votes.

He argued that major national coalitions could still secure victory without overwhelming support from the region.
