KUCCPS Returns Most Sought-After Courses Ahead Of Application Deadline

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced the inclusion of new, highly competitive courses to its application portal during the course revision season.

During the second KUCCPS webinar on Wednesday, May 20, KUCCPS director for Placement and Career Development John Oluoch announced the return of some highly competitive courses to the portal.

This enables students who were initially denied placement in the courses another opportunity to apply.

“But I also need to clarify that you could check, maybe there are new programmes recently approved and have been uploaded into the system, so they might not necessarily be filled up,” Oluoch stated.

“Like, there is a public university with a programme with a branch of engineering, so you can check,” he added, notifying applicants to check and apply.

The development comes after concerns from students who were unable to locate some programmes on the platform, querying why the programmes were unavailable during the revision time.

The placement service had initially removed the courses from the portal during the revision period, after it noted that the courses had been filled up.

Among the programmes affected are nursing, medicine, pharmacy, and engineering courses that traditionally attract the highest number of applicants.

The silent reintroduction of the courses now means students who did not get placement in the courses and had applied for them can get another chance and try their luck this time around.

The placement agency also noted that not all highly competitive courses have been reintroduced.

Some courses have been filled up completely, and students who did not get placement are urged to apply for other courses even as the timeline nears.

“If you are not able to view a programme when you search by institution or name during the revision period, you know those programmes have been filled up, and once they are filled up, we archive them,” Oluoch said.

KUCCPS further advised students against manually scrolling through the entire portal while searching for courses.

They noted that the large number of programmes available could make the process difficult and time-consuming.

“Just check by the name of the programme. Do not get into the portal and begin to scroll,” he added.

“There are so many programmes that you may not be able to read all of them. Search the programme you want by name, see the institutions offering it and make your application.”

The quiet reintroduction of the courses and the new directive comes at a time when 2025 KCSE students are revising courses they applied for ahead of September placement.

The revision window will close on May 22, and the placement body will officially place students at different universities and colleges beginning in July this year.
