KRA Launches Verification Tool Amid Rising Scam Cases

To prevent extortion and impersonation, the Kenya Revenue Authority has developed a new tool that allows the public to authenticate the identity of KRA officials.

In a notice issued on Friday, May 22, the KRA noted that the action was in response to public outrage over allegations that fraudsters were impersonating KRA officials and extorting money from people.

According to the authorities, fraudsters have been impersonating KRA workers and seeking to solicit money by fraudulently promising assistance with tax and procurement operations.

“It has come to our attention that fraudsters are impersonating KRA staff and attempting to solicit money from taxpayers and suppliers,” KRA said in the statement.

Following a rise in fraud cases, the authority unveiled a tool for the public to verify whether a person posing as KRA staff is genuine.
