The latest drop in fuel prices has been condemned by United Opposition leaders as an insult to Kenyans.

They promised to prosecute President William Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza officials suspected of looting public funds if they establish the next government in 2027.

Eugene Wamalwa, the leader of the DAP-Kenya party, led the charge, mocking the Kenya Kwanza administration for lowering petrol prices by merely 22 cents and diesel prices by Ksh.10 per litre.

Wamalwa claimed that the action demonstrated the government’s indifference to the high cost of living.

Speaking to congregants at Kibabii Catholic Church, Wamalwa questioned why the government had previously raised fuel prices by more than Ksh.40 only to lower them by a few cents.

“It is an insult to Kenyans to reduce the price of fuel by 22 cents on petrol and Ksh.10 on diesel,” he said.

Kalonzo Musyoka has put a figure on the table: KSh 167 fuel.

While others are giving speeches, he is giving Kenyans measurable commitments.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka echoed the sentiments, saying the United Opposition had proposed a more significant cut that would have brought relief to Kenyans struggling under the weight of high commodity prices.

“Today they have reduced the price of fuel by Ksh.10,” Kalonzo said.

“We, as the United Alternative Government, had proposed that the price of fuel be reduced to Ksh.170. What they have done will only push the cost of living higher.”

The Wiper leader urged those in power to be prepared to hand over the reins in next year’s election, saying Kenyans were yearning for leaders with a clear plan to improve their lives.

“We want those in power to be ready to hand over leadership next year to those who have a plan to better the lives of Kenyans,” he said.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya turned up the heat further, warning that an opposition government would move swiftly to recover stolen public funds.

“When the alternative government takes power next year, President William Ruto will be given 60 days to return all the resources he has stolen from Kenyans; failure to do so will result in him being jailed,” Natembeya said.

He added that other leaders accused of stashing stolen wealth abroad, including in Uganda, would be given a 30-day ultimatum to return the resources or face prosecution.

“All other leaders who have stolen resources and hidden them in other countries, including Uganda, will be given 30 days to return them, failing which they will be jailed,” he warned.

Natembeya also issued a challenge to the United Opposition principals, calling on them to settle on a presidential flagbearer with the courage to take on the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“To the United principals, we need amongst you a president that is bold enough to deal with and prosecute all those leaders in Kenya Kwanza who have messed up this country,” he said.
