AUTOPSY: KMTC Student Died From Suffocation, Internal Injuries

A postmortem examination found that Anne Odhiambo, a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student, died of suffocation and other internal injuries.

The autopsy was performed at the Nairobi Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, after the student was discovered dead in her dormitory room at the KMTC Nairobi Campus.

The inspection revealed that her corpse included black markings around the tongue, indicating a shortage of oxygen prior to her death.

Other injuries were also discovered, such as bite marks around her midsection and blood traces from her nose.

As the inquiry into her death continues, samples from her body were gathered for toxicological testing.

Odhiambo, who was pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine, was found lying on the floor of her Kenyatta Hostel room on July 7 at around 11 pm.

Several students have reportedly been questioned as police continue gathering information on the events leading to the incident.

KMTC confirmed Odhiambo’s death in a statement seen by this publication, saying it was working with security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

“The incident has been reported to the relevant security agencies, and investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing,” the statement read.

“The College Management is working closely with the relevant authorities as the investigations continue.”

Odhiambo’s death came days after another KMTC student died after being thrown out of a moving matatu along the Thika superhighway.
