UDA Sends Top Leadership To Uganda For 6-Day Meet-Up With Museveni

During a six-day formal tour, a delegation of Kenyan politicians from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flew secretly to Uganda to meet with counterparts from the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM).

According to an official tweet from the NRM party, the UDA leaders arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, February 4.

They were met at Entebbe Airport by Major Awich Pollar, the NRM’s Director of External Affairs.

According to Pollar, the two parties, as the ruling parties in their respective countries, have a lot to learn from one another.

“A high-powered delegation of Kenya’s ruling party, UDA has arrived in Uganda ahead of a six-day official visit to the National Resistance Movement (NRM),” the post read in part.

“The two ruling parties share experiences and best practices and are willing to learn from each other.”

According to the schedule of the NRM Director of External Affairs, the UDA leaders will meet with the party head, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Museveni will tell them about the NRM’s history and strengths.

“In the spirit of the East African Community and the spirit of Africa, we thought that as progressive parties, we should share a lot in common,” Pollar informed.

“We have many activities for them. They want to see how we build our ideological strength.”

The NRM leadership went on to say that the two political parties have comparable missions of improving people’s lives and promoting East Africa’s political federation.

The UDA’s visit to Uganda’s NRM party was not surprising, given that the party has always professed appreciation for Uganda’s ruling party’s longevity.

In October 2024, a delegation of UDA representatives visited the party in Uganda and stated their willingness to compare its performance to that of the NRM party.

“We admire that you have a good foundation to pick a leaf from and I will be looking forward to what structured partnership to learn from you (NRM),” Joash Maangi,

“Kenya’s history of political parties is that they evolve from one election to another.”

Maangi was also part of the seven-strong UDA delegation that visited NRM in October said at the time.

In the October meeting, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan complimented NRM’s leadership and perseverance, describing the conference as a valuable learning experience for his party.

Some UDA leaders have discussed extending President William Ruto’s term in office.
