‘You Say Ruto Must Go, Gov’t Will Silence You!’ – MP William Kamket On State’s Abductions Involvement

Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has disclosed that Kenyans are being abducted for criticizing President William Ruto‘s administration.

In what appears to be a confession that the government is abducting people, the MP stated that the abductions are ‘repercussions and reprisals’ against those pushing for the overthrow of the Ruto dictatorship.

The MP spoke in Baringo County on Friday, February 7, alleging that Kenyans were employing illegitimate measures to destabilize Ruto’s government, which resulted in the abductions.

“When you say that Ruto Must Go and you want to use unconstitutional means, what do you expect from the state?” Kamket asked.

He added, “You expect what we call reprisals; you expect repercussions. So the little noises you hear about some people being arrested and abducted—those are repercussions of trying to overthrow the government through unconstitutional means.”

According to the Member of Parliament, government critics deserve to be abducted and arrested for criticizing the government.

Kenya has seen a rise in cases of kidnapping, generating a massive outcry in the country, with some claiming that the cases are returning the country to its darkest days.

According to data from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), 13 more cases of abduction or enforced disappearances have occurred in the last three months, increasing the total number of cases to 82 since June 2024.

Seven of the most recent abduction instances were reported in December 2024, with six remaining missing, increasing the total number of abducted people to 29 since June 2024.

Despite the growing occurrences of forced disappearance, the country’s security authorities have denied any involvement in some of the cases, while maintaining that others were arrests rather than abductions.

Police IG Douglas Kanja has repeatedly denied police participation in the incidents. Recently, Public Service CS Justin Muturi accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of being behind the kidnappings.

This is following his son’s purported abduction last year. The CS said that he called the president and requested his son’s release. After the call, his son was discharged within an hour.

President William Ruto told Kenyans that his administration will halt abductions.

“What has been said about abductions, we will stop them so Kenyan youth can live in peace, but they should have discipline and be polite so that we can build Kenya together,” Ruto said at a stadium in Homa Bay.
