EXPOSED: Autopsy Contradicts Police Report On Majengo Protests’ Deaths

A man allegedly shot by police on Wednesday died of a gunshot wound to the stomach, according to an autopsy performed on Friday, March 7. This is despite police stating that he was stabbed to death.

According to the autopsy, Dennis Muthui, 26, was shot at close range in the stomach with a small calibre firearm, contradicting earlier police assertions that he had been stabbed.

A government autopsy concluded that Muthui was shot at close range with a small-caliber weapon, contradicting police assertions that he was stabbed.

The postmortem, conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, revealed that the bullet detonated in Muthui’s stomach, leaving several fragments.

According to Haki Africa Director Hussein Khalid, gun pellets and plastic shards were found in his belly, while Oduor collected seven gunshot fragments.

“The bullet exploded in the stomach, and they were able to collect pellets from the stomach. At least seven pellets were collected from the remains,” said Khalid.

Muthui was shot dead on Wednesday morning in Majengo, as protests erupted after the police shooting of 17-year-old Ibrahim Ramadan.

Witnesses at the scene said a police officer fired the fatal shot, striking Muthui in the stomach. He died instantly, they claimed.

“This clearly discounts the allegations that he was stabbed. This confirms that he was shot and killed,” Khalid told the press.

“According to eyewitnesses, the person who killed him identified himself as a police officer.”

Hours thereafter, the National Police Service issued a statement saying Muthui had been stabbed, which was clearly disproved by forensic evidence. His body was transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary.

The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has received the postmortem findings and is currently investigating the killing. Police have since interdicted the officer suspected of shooting Muthui.

Muthui’s family wants the authorities to act quickly, holding them accountable and ensuring justice.

According to reports, two to three people died during the Majengo protests, and many others were injured.

The disturbance began on March 4, 2025, with the purported police shooting of 17-year-old Ibrahim Ramadhan, which sparked widespread protest.

The number of dead is not consistent among reports. The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) recorded two deaths, including Muthui.

The location of the second body is unknown, as authorities apparently took it from the scene.

However, according to some sources, a third person died from gunshot wounds, increasing the total death toll to three.
