Kenya’s Diaspora Department Reveals How 3 Kenyans Died In The UAE

Three Kenyans were among five people killed in a fire that broke out in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The killings were confirmed by Kenyan and UAE officials.

Roseline Njogu, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, expressed condolences to the families of the departed Kenyans.

“I regret to inform you that 3 Kenyans are among 5 casualties that died following a deadly fire that occurred in Sharjah, UAE on Sunday,” she said on Tuesday.

“My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased diaspora. We stand with you to offer support during this difficult time.”

Njogu, however, did not provide any other information.

Sharjah Police said a criminal laboratory team is investigating the cause of the fire, which broke out in an apartment on the top level, and that specialised teams are inspecting the scene.

According to Gulf News, the five individuals who died as a result of the fire were all of African heritage, with three from Kenya.

The five were killed as they attempted to flee. The UAE authorities also reported that 148 individuals were safely evacuated from the building by rescue responders.

The fire is suspected to have begun on the 42nd story, which is still shut off.
