‘Gachagua Is Not Immune From Prosecution!’ – DCI Amin
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would face the same charges as any other Kenyan if he is determined to be involved in the violence that occurred on June 25, according to DCI chief Mohamed Amin.
Amin made the remarks on Monday afternoon, June 30, during a press briefing to present updates on the investigations, five days after protests became violent across the country.
During his briefing, the DCI leader was questioned about the possibility of Gachagua facing prosecution if he was deemed to be a person of interest in the protests.
According to the DCI director, no one was exempt from prosecution, and the former Deputy President would face the full weight of the law if investigations linked him to the Wednesday violence.
“With regard to Rigathi, I would like to put it very clearly that Rigathi Gachagua does not enjoy any immunity against prosecution. He is subject to the laws of the land,” Amin said.
“If in our investigations, he is found to have been involved in criminal activity, then action will be taken against Rigathi Gachagua.”

The DCI chief also revealed numerous significant findings from the investigations thus far, including the fact that the violence observed in various parts of the country, including Nairobi, was planned and not random.
“Our investigations have uncovered disturbing incidents . There has been destruction of critical government infrastructure.
“Several firearms and police equipment were stolen, and some of these weapons have already been used in violent robberies,” Amin went on.
“These actions were not spontaneous; they were orchestrated and we are actively pursuing the mobilisers and financiers of these acts, and they will be brought to justice soon.”
Gachagua first addressed the June 25 protests on Thursday, criticizing the state for reportedly employing disproportionate force to disperse protesters.
The former DP claimed a well-planned scheme to stop demonstrators on Kiambu Road and Thika Road, leaving them stranded while goons wreaked mayhem in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
