ODM’s Wanga Not Ashamed For Encouraging Dialogue

Gladys Wanga, the governor of Homa Bay, has strongly defended the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) choice to embrace national dialogue and work with President William Ruto’s administration.

Wanga argued that positive involvement is the only way to move the country forward.

Wanga, commenting about the current political atmosphere on Monday, July 21, emphasized that dialogue is the only way to address the difficulties facing Kenya and Africa as a whole.

She stated that the country is at a crossroads, with some individuals believing that things are not going well and others believing otherwise, and that meeting to discuss the situation is the most sensible approach.

“There is no problem in this country and even in Africa that can be solved without dialogue. We are at a crossroads. Some people are feeling things are not going right while others are feeling otherwise,” Wanga said.

“And Raila, our party leader, has proposed the way forward, and he has said let us all sit together and dialogue in a conclave.”

She added: “We as the ODM party support the dialogue proposal. We will dialogue, and we will continue to dialogue.”

The governor also indicated that ODM has established a thorough ten-point program that they plan to implement while collaborating with President Ruto’s administration.

She argued that this collaboration is in the best interests of the country and that they owe no one an apology for supporting government projects that attempt to improve Kenyans’ lives.

“We would also like to say that we have a ten-point agenda and we have agreed to work with President William Ruto,” she added.

“We do not have any apologies, and we will support him and we will support the programs of the government so that we can move our country to the next level.”

Wanga also criticised opposition politics for lacking a clear policy direction.

She emphasized that the opposition’s role should extend beyond personalizing issues and demanding that a sitting president resign.

She stated that the opposition must develop a clear and visionary strategy rather than simply waking up each day to bore the public with constant chanting of “Ruto must go”.

“If you are in the opposition, know that the opposition must have an agenda,” she said.

“The opposition cannot be ‘Ruto must go.’ Ruto cannot go without an election because we are in a democratic country.”
