Education Ministry Opens Second Grade 10 School Placement Review

The Ministry of Education has announced that students who are disappointed with their Grade 10 Senior School placement will have a second opportunity to reconsider their school options starting next week.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 30, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stated that students can change their placement between Tuesday, January 6, and Friday, January 9.

This follows the conclusion of the first evaluation, which was released on Monday, December 29.

In the first revision, the ministry received 355,457 petitions for review, of which 211,636 were approved and the remainder were denied.

According to the CS, refused applications were primarily rejected due to the absence of the preferred topic combination or a lack of capacity in the chosen institutions.

“Learners were allowed the opportunity to apply for review of the initial placement from 23rd December, 2025,” Ogamba said.

“The processing of review applications was concluded on 29th December, 2025, and the results are now available on the placement portal.”

“There were, for example, up to 20,000 applications for schools like Alliance High School, Kenya High School, and Mangu High School, against an average capacity of 500 slots,” he added.

According to the ministry, 88% of all learners have been placed based on their original or updated selections.

The ministry has confirmed that learners whose reviews have been accepted will be able to access joining instructions through the ministry’s placement portals.

Learners would be obliged to report to their respective senior schools beginning January 12, according to the Ministry.

On Thursday, December 11, Ogamba published the 2025 KJSEA examination results, which were followed by the publication of Grade 10 placement results on Friday, December 19.

A total of 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA, with 578,630 being male,  and 551,829 being female.
