Senator Sifuna Suspends Linda Mwananchi Tour For Ramadan Season

The Nairobi County Senator has announced that he and his team will cease the Linda Mwanachi Tour in Mombasa County.

This followed the Muslim elders’ appeal to purposefully observe the Ramadan celebrations, which began on February 18 and lasted until March 18.

The declaration came on Saturday, February 21, in Kakamega County, where Sifuna and his colleagues led the caucus during a demonstration at Amalemba Grounds.

The Senator was accompanied by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya County Governor James Orengo, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

“We, as the Linda Mwananchi group, will traverse the whole country; however, our muslim brothers have asked us to put a slight break on the tour scheduled for Mombasa, so as to observe the holy month of Ramadan,” stated Sifuna.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party faction tour made its most recent visit on February 15, this year, at Kitengela, Kajiado County.

This follows its official launch on February 8, 2026, with previous festivities held in Ugunja and Busia counties.

The Coast Region has a sizable Muslim population, and holding large-scale political rallies with loud music and daytime activities may interrupt those fasting.

Ramadan includes midday fasting and nighttime Taraweeh prayers, which can have a big impact on crowd turnout and the general intensity of daytime political events and caravan-style trips.

This also comes against the backdrop of the violence that has occurred during the protests, with fights between police and opposing parties reported in numerous Kenyan counties.

At the Kitengela rally on February 15, one person died from police gunshots, as revealed by the autopsy reports released on February 21, identified as Vincent Ayomo.

Ayomo was reportedly shot while returning home from work. Approximately 50 people sustained injuries following police deployment of tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the gathered crowd in Kitengela.

On February 21, violence erupted at the Kakamega rally, where at least one suspected hired goon was killed amid clashes between rival groups, with several youths injured in nearby Mbale town.
